QXR-5000 and Earth Creature

‘QXR-5000′ doesn’t stand for anything in particular. It was just the first series of letters and numbers that came to my head.

QXR-5000 makes his second appearance here: Snow-Bot

Tea and Evil

This painting and its title were both inspired by my friend Ian, who has an uncanny knack for that sort of thing.

Boy and Dog in a Boat

I like to have characters from past works make cameos in later ones. Here, Island Boy and the Little White Dog take a row together.

As I stated earlier, the Little White Dog pops up every now an again. Keep an eye out for him.

The Amazing Backyard Adventures of Space Boy

The Amazing Backyward Adventures of Space Boy

That Atomic Age inspiration I mentioned before is apparent in this one, I think. I filled the street with only ranch-style homes, kept the palette mainly to pastels, and threw in some of those old metallic space toys that were full of lead and never recalled and now sell for obscene amounts of money on Ebay.

When I look at this painting now, I notice that I completely copied my childhood backyard at my parent’s house.

Boy and Snow Flower

Here’s a clear example of one of my favorite layouts, a very horizontal composition with a sharp vertical to break it.

So The Killer Is…

So The Killer Is...

Anyone who knows me knows that I am a fiend for murder mysteries. I devour Agatha Christie novels like Pez and can play Clue for hours on end. So this painting was really a treat for me.

I’ve been asked a few times whom the killer is. I know who I think did it, but I’ll never say. I don’t want to make the viewer believe what I believe. I’d rather they bring themselves to the piece and take away what they see. I think art can tell you just as much about yourself as the viewer as it can about the artist who made it.

By the way, if you think you know who did it, please let me know. I love hearing that.

Everyone changed from sketch to final, but only by a bit.
